Dynamic and Diverse Roles of Dopamine
نویسندگان
چکیده
Neural circuits are dynamically regulated by a diverse class of secretedmolecules known as neuromodulators, amongwhich is dopamine, amolecule linked to disorders such as Parkinson’s disease and schizophrenia and to reward-driven learning. This Select highlights several recently published papers that elucidate how dopamine neurons regulate circuits involved in depression-related behaviors, learning related to nutritional reward, and susceptibility to addiction.

Background: Feeding behavior is regulated by a complex network which interacts via diverse signals from central and peripheral tissues. It is known dopaminergic and glutamatergic systems have crucial role on food intake regulation but scarce reports exist on their interaction in appetite regulation in broilers. OBJECTIVES: The present study was designed to examine the role of glutamatergic syst...
متن کاملDopamine-Synthesizing Neurons: An Overview of Their Development and Application for Cell Therapy
Cell-gene therapy is a dynamic constituent of novel medical biotechnology. Neurodegenerative disordersin which damage to or demise of specific brain cell types plays central role, are clear examples of diseasecandidate for cell replacement therapy. Dopaminergic (DAergic) neurons biosynthesize dopamine, a vitalneurotransmitter in the central nervous system. Due to the involveme...
متن کاملRole of dopamine D2 receptors in optimizing choice strategy in a dynamic and uncertain environment
In order to investigate roles of dopamine receptor subtypes in reward-based learning, we examined choice behavior of dopamine D1 and D2 receptor-knockout (D1R-KO and D2R-KO, respectively) mice in an instrumental learning task with progressively increasing reversal frequency and a dynamic two-armed bandit task. Performance of D2R-KO mice was progressively impaired in the former as the frequency ...
متن کاملThe Roles of Dopamine
INTRODUCTION Dopamine (DA) is a neuromodulator (see: NEUROMODULATION IN INVERTEBRATE NERVOUS SYSTEMS and SYNAPTIC CURRENTS, NEUROMODULATION AND KINETIC MODELS) that originates from small groups of neurons in the mesencephalon (the ventral tegmental area (A10), the substantia nigra (A9) and A8) and in the diencephalon (area A13, A14 and A15). Dopaminergic projections are in general very diffuse ...
متن کاملDopaminergic foundations of personality and individual differences
For several years, theory and research in Personality Neuroscience has linked dopamine function with various aspects of personality and individual differences. This literature builds on research in basic neuroscience concerning the role of dopamine in behavior and experience, with the aim of understanding the ways in which this neurotransmitter system influences regularities in behavior and exp...
